The threat of piracy impacts both vessels and fixed sites alike. The cost of piracy losses to industry is rapidly rising, but the risk can be mitigated by the employment of customized security solutions. Fixed sites, such as offshore oil platforms, are especially vulnerable to piracy.
Seafaring Security Services has designed the Off-Shore Perimeter Security System, a system of concentric security rings supported by layered multi-sensor coverage that provides the crew on the platforms with early indications and warnings as boats and/or other potential threats approach the platform. The security rings are specifically sized, based upon expected threat characteristics, to provide sufficient time to determine intent and take necessary security steps.
The outer layer detects and monitors potential threats, while the next layer provides confirmation. The sensors are arranged in overlapping coverage layers, with radar providing detection and tracking of potential threats with increased resolution. Visible spectrum and thermal cameras support the visual identification and confirmation of potential threats. Each layer has specific alerting protocols from passive, to active, to critical. The system also reacts based on other operational parameters, such as contact speed and bearing. The Off-Shore Perimeter Security System provides the early warning necessary to allow for security forces to identify and appropriately deal with threats before the offshore platform is threatened.
